Savassi Festival is a jazz and instrumental music festival created in 2003 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Born as a community festival, Savassi is the name of the region where the festival started, with an open air stage. Directed by "Café com Letras" a local cafe and cultural producer powerhouse, the festival outgrew its initial aims and not only expanded to include several venues throughout the city but also went to other cities in the country.
Last year, in its first New York edition, it promoted 20 concerts and 5 workshops, in collaboration with America's Society, New York University Steinhardt and Columbia University. In the 2014 New York edition, the festival is completely focused on Brazilian Instrumental Music. Whether played by Brazilians or non-Brazilians its goal is to create a unique ground for the development of creative projects, bringing that work to the public and celebrating the uniqueness and power of our music.
